John Caldwell is the undisputed pioneer of the Coombsville appellation, having planted the first vineyards in this volcanic, rocky corner of southeastern Napa in 1984. His estate cave system is massive and extraordinary, and the wines are dark, intense, and utterly distinctive. Tastings in the cave feel like an expedition into the soul of the earth, complete with barrel samples and John colorful stories.
