Designed to evoke mid-century California modernism, Ashes & Diamonds (named for a 1958 Polish film) looks like a Palm Springs house transported to the Silverado Trail. The wines are equally unconventional: lean, acid-driven, old-school Napa styles that deliberately avoid the big, rich profile that dominates today. Divisive and delightful.
